{"id":867,"date":"2006-03-28T00:13:00","date_gmt":"2006-03-28T05:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=867"},"modified":"2006-03-28T00:13:00","modified_gmt":"2006-03-28T05:13:00","slug":"self-inflicted-wounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=867","title":{"rendered":"Self-Inflicted Wounds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s somewhat fascinating to watch Stephen Harper kiss away all the good will he built up during the election campaign.<\/p>\n<p>First, he pissed all over the &#8220;doing politics differently&#8221; line which he&#8217;d promoted. This was probably inevitable since any politician who has ever promised to &#8220;do politics differently&#8221; has eventually realized how difficult it is to actually do that.<\/p>\n<p>Now, after building up an immense amount of media goodwill during the election, Harper has decided to use the old John Diefenbaker approach of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctv.ca\/servlet\/ArticleNews\/story\/CTVNews\/20060327\/pmo_media_060327\/20060327?hub=Canada&#038;s_name=\">going to war with the media<\/a>. I&#8217;m not sure <em>why <\/em>he&#8217;s doing this, but it strikes me as an extremely foolish strategy on his part. People can complain about a &#8220;media bias&#8221; all they want, but it&#8217;s hard to complain when the individual brings it on themselves.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>UPDATE:<\/em><\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.macleans.ca\/paulwells\/archives\/week_2006_03_26-2006_04_01.asp#002274\">Paul Wells <\/a>dives into the debate with a lengthy, but very clear post on why this is a problem.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s somewhat fascinating to watch Stephen Harper kiss away all the good will he built up during the election campaign.
