{"id":431,"date":"2005-08-17T10:37:00","date_gmt":"2005-08-17T14:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=431"},"modified":"2005-08-17T10:37:00","modified_gmt":"2005-08-17T14:37:00","slug":"the-sound-of-silence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=431","title":{"rendered":"The Sound of Silence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More perplexing that the fact that the PMO appointed an individual who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawasun.com\/News\/National\/2005\/08\/17\/1176259-sun.html\">they now admit they knew was in videos and books supporting separatism<\/a>, is the absolute lack of a credible explanation by anyone involved.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberpresse.ca\/actualites\/article\/article_complet.php?path=\/actualites\/article\/16\/1,63,0,082005,1133039.php\">Michaelle Jean will finally speak <\/a>but it just blows my mind how long it&#8217;s taken for her to defend herself, considering:<\/p>\n<p>1. She has been in media for most of her lifetime. Surely she can handle herself in front of the cameras, right?<\/p>\n<p>2. Remember when Paul Martin said he&#8217;d change the way business was done in Ottawa? Remember how heads of Crown Corporations and Supreme Court nominees would be put under intense scrutiny? Yet when he appoints a head of state with ties to the only Canadian terrorist organization in modern Canadian history, it&#8217;s considered &#8220;Stalinist&#8221; to ask her to explain herself.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States, any trivial appointment is run through a rigorous screening procedure where any perceived problem in their past invalidates the nominee for the position.
