{"id":3794,"date":"2012-06-25T14:51:34","date_gmt":"2012-06-25T18:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=3794"},"modified":"2012-06-25T14:56:30","modified_gmt":"2012-06-25T18:56:30","slug":"who-had-june-25th-in-the-pool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=3794","title":{"rendered":"Who had June 25th in the pool?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The much-anticipated Thomas Mulcair attack ads have arrived:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lz6KaYRdt6w\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Other than changing the off-grey colours from red to orange, this doesn&#8217;t look to be much more than a recycled anti-Liberal TV spot &#8211; torqued policy positions, lots of talk about &#8220;risks&#8221;, and a cameo by the scary carbon tax.<\/p>\n<p>But while the style is reminiscent of attack ads of yore, there is one striking difference between this and the &#8220;<em>Just Visiting<\/em>&#8220;\/&#8221;<em>Not a Leader<\/em>&#8221; campaigns. Simply put, the Tories have adopted a far more policy-based strategy when it comes to defining <em>this <\/em>leader of the opposition. Dion was branded as wimpy and weak, Ignatieff as an intellectual snob. This ad doesn&#8217;t even contain so much as a gratuitous &#8220;he&#8217;s out of touch&#8221; pot shot, despite plenty of opportunities to slide something of the sort in.<\/p>\n<p>Rather, the focus is squarely on NDP policies (or &#8220;theories&#8221; as the ad mischievously calls them) &#8211; both real and, in the case of the carbon tax, imagined.
