{"id":2972,"date":"2011-04-18T17:25:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-18T21:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2972"},"modified":"2012-05-29T17:23:31","modified_gmt":"2012-05-29T21:23:31","slug":"scoreboard-watching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2972","title":{"rendered":"Scoreboard Watching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we enter the stretch drive on the campaign trail, I figured I&#8217;d check in on the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2011\/03\/calgary-grit-election-pool-20-questions.html\">20 questions<\/a>&#8221; pool, to see if the campaign has unfolded as people expected it would. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Over\/under on the highest level of support the Conservatives will hit in a national election poll &#8211; 42%<\/strong> (<em>63% said over<\/em>) <\/p>\n<p>While Harper&#8217;s numbers have been consistently below 40% of late, he did <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanosresearch.com\/election2011\/Ballot_VoteA3E.pdf\">sneak over<\/a> in one early Nanos poll, sparing me from having to rule on whether or not I would accept the <a href=\"http:\/\/cnews.canoe.ca\/CNEWS\/Canada\/CanadaVotes\/News\/2011\/04\/12\/17974001.html\">COMPAS 45%<\/a> as a legitimate poll. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Number of times Stephen Harper uses the word &#8220;coalition&#8221; in the (first) English language debate?<\/strong> (<em>median: 13, mean: 120,653<\/em>) <\/p>\n<p>By my count, there was only one mention. <a href=\"http:\/\/a-view-from-the-left.blogspot.com\/\">A View from the Left <\/a>is the closest at &#8220;0&#8221;, but I&#8217;m willing to hand out points to anyone who said 5 or below. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Who will the instant-polls show as having won the first English language debate?<\/strong> (<em>Ignatieff 39%, Layton 24%, Harper 22%, Duceppe 10%<\/em>) <\/p>\n<p>Despite Layton&#8217;s tour-de-force, the instant polls all showed Harper as the winner. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Mulcair or Cauchon in Outremont?<\/strong> (<em>73% predicted Mulcair<\/em>) <\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberpresse.ca\/actualites\/elections-federales\/201104\/08\/01-4388207-mulcair-en-avance-dans-outremont.php\">CROP poll<\/a> from a few weeks back had Mulcair leading by 20 points&#8230;and this was before the NDP surge in Quebec. I wouldn&#8217;t want to count out Martin Cauchon, but in the battle of leadership aspirants, Mulcair is certainly the odds-on favourite at this point. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Which party will run the most vicious attack ad?<\/strong> (<em>73% said the Tories<\/em>) <\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve seen some blood in the water <a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservative.ca\/multimedia\/our_ads\/\">of<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2011\/04\/ad-watch-subtle-attacks.html\">late<\/a>, but I feel like the harshest stuff is yet to come. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Will the words &#8220;abortion&#8221;, &#8220;women&#8217;s right to choose&#8221;, or some variant, be used in a TV commercial this campaign?<\/strong> (<em>33% said yes<\/em>) <\/p>\n<p>So far, the answer is a no. A &#8220;yes&#8221; here would likely give us a new contender on the previous question. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Will any Harper Cabinet Ministers appear in an english-language commercial this campaign?<\/strong> (<em>21% said yes<\/em>) <\/p>\n<p>Unless Tony Clement was in the crowd on that <a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2011\/04\/ad-watch-my-name-is-steve-and-i-am.html\">Summit Series footage<\/a>, still no Cabinet Ministers as of yet. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Will Harper&#8217;s sweater vest make an appearance in a Conservative ad?<\/strong> (<em>29% said yes<\/em>) <\/p>\n<p>Sweater vests are <em>so <\/em>2008 &#8211; our fragile economic recovery calls for a suit and tie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As we enter the stretch drive on the campaign trail, I figured I&#8217;d check in on the &#8220;20 questions&#8221; pool, to see if the campaign has unfolded as people expected it would.
