{"id":2861,"date":"2011-02-11T16:30:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-11T21:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2861"},"modified":"2011-02-11T16:30:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-11T21:30:00","slug":"bonus-twia-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2861","title":{"rendered":"Bonus TWIA &#8211; Polls!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two new polls to report in Alberta.<\/p>\n<p>First up comes the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.albertadiary.ca\/2011\/02\/yikes-bad-news-for-all-five-alberta.html\">latest from Janet Brown<\/a>, who has earned a solid reputation for projecting Alberta elections:<\/p>\n<p>PC  40%<br \/>WAP  33%<br \/>ALP  19%<br \/>NDP  8%<br \/>AP  0.1%<\/p>\n<p>I feel badly for Brown on this one, since this poll was in field the week <em>before<\/em> Stelmach resigned. A 900 sample survey isn&#8217;t cheap, and with the <a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2011\/02\/beginners-guide-to-alberta-politics-or.html\">oil hitting the fan<\/a> right afterwards, the poll loses a lot of its value. But, hey, at least we know the PCs were doing fine, even with Ed at the helm.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgaryherald.com\/news\/Alberta+Tories+widen+lead+Wildrose+Alliance+Poll\/4263488\/story.html\">Environics<\/a> was in field both before and after all the <a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2011\/02\/beginners-guide-to-alberta-politics-or.html\">craziness<\/a>. Their conclusion? It didn&#8217;t change a heck of a lot. They didn&#8217;t notice an immediate shift in support one way or the other.<\/p>\n<p>PC  38%<br \/>WAP  26%<br \/>ALP  22%<br \/>NDP  10%<\/p>\n<p>Numbers like this have a tendency to get spun as &#8220;bad news&#8221; for all parties involved, so let me play the optimist for a change. The PCs are comfortably in front, likely in majority territory. The Alliance are a solid second despite most Albertans knowing little about them or their charismatic leader. The Liberals are down, but if they can get their standard 25-30%, they&#8217;ll make major seat gains due to the right wing vote split.
