{"id":2843,"date":"2011-01-21T10:11:00","date_gmt":"2011-01-21T15:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2843"},"modified":"2011-01-21T10:11:00","modified_gmt":"2011-01-21T15:11:00","slug":"counter-punch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2843","title":{"rendered":"Counter Punch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a slew of <a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2011\/01\/just-to-be-clear-we-really-dont-like.html\">Tory ads<\/a> on Monday, the Liberals have countered with a pair of their own.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"384\" height=\"234\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NIjOaGM_GGE\" frameborder=\"0\" allowFullScreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"384\" height=\"234\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zvvpu__6nMc\" frameborder=\"0\" allowFullScreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Yes, these are attack ads &#8211; dark, both in colour and message. But it&#8217;s a <strong>substantiated <\/strong>attack. Harper <em>IS <\/em>bringing in a corporate tax cut and he <em>IS <\/em>buying the fighter jets. Those are facts. There are certainly valid reasons for making both decisions, but that&#8217;s the debate we should be having. Contrast that to the Tory ads which were nothing more than <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.macleans.ca\/2011\/01\/21\/we-get-the-politics-we-pay-for\/\">drive-by-smears<\/a> on Ignatieff. Or, for that matter, some of the character assassinations the Liberals tried on Harper in past elections.<\/p>\n<p>As for the ads themselves, they&#8217;ll sink or swim on the issues they discuss, but they&#8217;re certainly well produced. The flying jets and sound effects get your attention (remember the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lj8XhGm40Ag\">car honk<\/a> at the end of those great CPC ads in the &#8217;06 campaign), as do the coloured dollar signs up against a grey background.<\/p>\n<p>Of the two, I think the corporate tax ad is more powerful. The rising cost of living line is something everyone can relate to (first seen <a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2011\/01\/5-years-in.html\">last week<\/a>). It&#8217;s easy to grasp the idea of a big tax cut for corporations (notice the stretch limo) at a time when you&#8217;re having trouble making ends meet (notice the frustrated family). Probably more so than spending on military planes which we may or may not need.<\/p>\n<p>So, on the whole, a very strong response from the Liberals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a slew of Tory ads on Monday, the Liberals have countered with a pair of their own.
