Jim Flaherty kicked off his Canada Club speech on Tuesday with a call to restore sanity<\/a> to our political process:<\/p>\n

Opposition politicians who talk down our economy for political gain at every opportunity.<\/p>\n

To them I say: rise above petty politics<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

However, 5 minutes later, he wasn’t so much rising above petty politics as belly flopping in:<\/p>\n

But the opposition coalition \u2013 the Michael Ignatieff-NDP-Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois coalition \u2013 has been consistent in one thing, if only one thing.<\/p>\n

From the beginning of the global economic crisis, they have put their own self-interest above Canadians.<\/p>\n

Just five short years ago, Canada was led by a weak, dithering, and directionless government.<\/p>\n

Support for Quebec sovereignty was on the rise.<\/p>\n

And our ability to defend Canada\u2019s sovereignty was on the decline.<\/p>\n

Waste, mismanagement, and corruption were rampant on the inside.<\/p>\n

And regular Canadians \u2013 the people who work hard, pay their taxes, and play by the rules \u2013 were left on the outside.<\/p>\n

Experts estimate the Michael Ignatieff-NDP-Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois tax hikes would kill almost 400,000 jobs.<\/p>\n

Coincidentally, that\u2019s virtually the number of jobs Canada lost, but has since regained, during the recession.<\/p>\n

Behind those 400,000 jobs are real Canadians, real families.<\/p>\n

They deserve better than a Liberal leader who would risk their jobs, their livelihood.<\/p>\n

I know he\u2019s been abroad for a long time.<\/p>\n

The coalition led by Mr. Ignatieff has its own agenda \u2013 power, power, power.<\/p>\n

While their leader is untested and unready, their ideas are not.<\/p>\n

They have been tested \u2013 and they have failed.<\/p>\n

Bigger and bigger government.<\/p>\n

Endless red tape.<\/p>\n

Higher and higher taxes.<\/p>\n

Any coalition that would give the NDP access to taxpayers\u2019 wallets should strike fear in regular Canadians.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, any coalition that would give a veto on national policy to a party dedicated to the breakup of our country is unacceptable.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
