Among the highlights:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Ralph Goodale <\/strong>becomes Deputy Leader. Some will see this as a slight to Rae who had been the de facto Number 2, but I think it&#8217;s a welcome move &#8211; Goodale is experienced, competent, respected, and it sends the right message to the West.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<em>Guess who&#8217;s back, back again&#8230;&#8217;Cause we need a little controversy, &#8216;Cause it feels so empty without Denis<\/em>. Yes, <strong>Denis Coderre<\/strong> is back after his one year time out. He gets Natural Resources, squaring him up against fellow Quebecer Christian Paradis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>David McGuinty<\/strong> becomes House Leader. So it&#8217;s up to David McGuinty and John Baird to make parliament work. Shall I cue up the election speculation or do you want to?<\/p>\n<p>-In the &#8220;demotion&#8221; file, <strong>Carolyn Bennett<\/strong> gets knocked down from Health to Democratic Renewal (which is actually a good fit for her). <strong>Rodger Cuzner<\/strong> is out as whip &#8211; perhaps in response to this spring&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/communities.canada.com\/windsorstar\/print.aspx?postid=590816\"><em>we look like fools<\/em><\/a>&#8221; debacle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Scott Brison<\/strong> is back as the Finance Critic, taking over from <strong>John McCallum<\/strong>. It seems like the Liberals keep swapping between the two of them for that portfolio. While McCallum certainly has the credentials for the job, Brison&#8217;s the better salesman and that&#8217;s what the job is really all about when you&#8217;re in opposition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Ujjal Dosanjh<\/strong> gets health &#8211; he&#8217;s the former Health Minister so this is a good fit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Gerard Kennedy<\/strong> moves to the environment. <strong>Martha Hall Findlay<\/strong> to International Trade. <strong>Marlene Jennings<\/strong> to Justice. <strong>Dominic LeBlanc<\/strong> takes over in Defence, a sign the Liberals may try to make hay out of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/news\/politics\/ottawa-to-spend-16-billion-on-fighter-jets\/article1642399\/\">fighter jet purchase<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Justin Trudeau<\/strong> replaces Bevilacqua in immigration. Given Justin&#8217;s riding and leadership ambitions, he&#8217;ll certainly be pleased.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.macleans.ca\/2010\/06\/08\/pablo-rodriguez-had-booze-on-his-breath-after-crash-police\/\"><strong>Pablo Rodriguez<\/strong><\/a> stays in. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/gta\/article\/628987\"><strong>Ruby Dhalla<\/strong><\/a> is still nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Liberals released their new critic lineup for the fall.
