To those who oppose the government\u2019s changes to the census you can now add <\/span>the Statistical Society of Canada<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the Federation of Canadian Municipalities<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the Canadian Marketing Association<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the Canadian Federation of Francophone and Acadian Communities<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the Executive Council of the Canadian Economics Association<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the director of the Prentice Institute at the University of Lethbridge<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the senior economist at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the Canadian Institute of Planners<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the Canadian Association for Business Economics<\/span><\/a>, and the editorial boards of the <\/span>Saskatoon Star-Phoenix<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Calgary Herald<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Winnipeg Free Press<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Globe and Mail<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

They join the <\/span>co-chairman of the Canada Census Committee<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Ancestry.ca<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>city planners in Calgary and Red Deer<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the Canadian Association of University Teachers<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the former head of Statistics Canada<\/span><\/a>, and the editorial boards of the <\/span>Toronto Star<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Montreal Gazette<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Edmonton Journal<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Victoria Times-Colonist<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And hot off the presses, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario<\/a> has sent Clement an open letter decrying the move. Also, Pundits Guide<\/a> talks about how the Census is used, and Susan Delacourt<\/a> finds it a wee bit odd that a political party which probably knows your voting record, ethnicity, and favourite TV show has issues with Stats Canada collecting Census information. Colby Cosh<\/a> does link to one of the few supporters of the government’s decision…and promptly rips him a new one.<\/p>\n
