{"id":2622,"date":"2010-04-12T08:56:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-12T12:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2622"},"modified":"2010-04-12T08:56:00","modified_gmt":"2010-04-12T12:56:00","slug":"new-alp-slogan-unveiled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2622","title":{"rendered":"New ALP Slogan Unveiled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Alberta Liberal Party: Shooting Ourselves in the Foot for Nearly a Century<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgarysun.com\/news\/columnists\/rick_bell\/2010\/04\/12\/13549731.html\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><strong>Grit MLA goes independent<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><\/p>\n<p>Dave Taylor, the party\u2019s former deputy leader, the Calgary MLA many Liberals wanted as their top gun 16 months ago, will sit as an independent beginning Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He is fed up with the Liberals as the main opposition on paper but nowhere near that in performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just don\u2019t have a position that\u2019s obvious to anybody on most things. I\u2019m sorry, but we don\u2019t. For two years now, we haven\u2019t really stood for anything, with a few notable exceptions,\u201d says Taylor, who spearheaded the party\u2019s oilpatch-friendly policy on royalties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Liberals are pretty much off the radar. We\u2019re not talking about or standing for things in a way that translates to Albertans. Most Albertans have passed the Liberals by. People aren\u2019t even politely curious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think I can serve my constituents or other Albertans in the way they deserved to be served within the Liberals. They\u2019re just too unfocused, too lacking in the ability to connect with the people of Alberta.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just don\u2019t see things happening. I feel I\u2019ve tried.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Given Taylor&#8217;s reputation for being a tad on the lazy side, it should come as no surprise that he&#8217;s <em>tired<\/em>. And the man certainly hasn&#8217;t gotten over his loss in <a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/alberta-liberals-vote.html\">2008&#8217;s David versus David showdown<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But this is a big blow.
