{"id":2519,"date":"2009-12-26T13:29:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-26T18:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2519"},"modified":"2009-12-26T13:29:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-26T18:29:00","slug":"no-matter-how-you-slice-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=2519","title":{"rendered":"No Matter How You Slice It&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;<span id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\" class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">tis<\/span> the season for eternal optimism:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">CALGARY &#8211; They haven&#8217;t elected a Calgary <span id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\" class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">MLA<\/span> for two decades and only snared one per cent of the vote in a recent city <span id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\" class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">byelection<\/span>, but <span id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\" class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">NDP<\/span> Leader Brian Mason remains optimistic his party can make a breakthrough in the heart of Conservative country.<\/p>\n<p>Mason believes the redrawing of electoral boundaries for an expected 2012 election &#8212; as well as adding four seats to the legislature, including potentially a few in Calgary &#8212; could be a boon to the <span id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\" class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">NDP<\/span>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the last election, the <span id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\" class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">NDP<\/span> cracked 10% of the vote in two Calgary <span id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_6\" class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">ridings<\/span>, picking up 13% in Calgary North Hill and 14% in Calgary Fort.<\/p>\n<p>So, for any aspiring <span id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\" class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">gerrymanderers<\/span> out there, the challenge is to divide up the Calgary map so that the Dippers win a seat in Calgary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;tis the season for eternal optimism: CALGARY &#8211; They haven&#8217;t elected a Calgary MLA for two decades and only snared one per cent of the vote in a recent city byelection, but NDP Leader Brian Mason remains optimistic his party can make a breakthrough in the heart of Conservative country.
