So rather than going bonkers over every poll that gets released, I think I&#8217;ll just do a once-a-month round-up to get a rough lay of the land.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s what Canadians have been telling pollsters of late:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/News\/Canada\/article\/572739\"><strong>Angus Reid<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong><em>(Jan 14-15, 1000 online)<\/em><br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">CPC<\/span> 39%<br \/>Lib 30%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\">NDP<\/span> 17%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\">BQ<\/span> 9%<br \/>Green 5%<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestrategiccounsel.com\/our_news\/polls.asp\"><strong>Strategic Counsel<\/strong> <\/a>(<em>Jan 12-14, 1000 telephone<\/em>)<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\">CPC<\/span> 36%<br \/>Lib 30%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\">NDP<\/span> 18%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_6\">BQ<\/span> 11%<br \/>Green 5%<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgaryherald.com\/news\/Canada+moving+right+track+Poll\/1160853\/story.html\"><strong><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\">Ipsos<\/span> Reid<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong><em>(Jan 6-8, 1000 telephone)<\/em><br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_8\">CPC<\/span> 39%<br \/>Lib 28%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_9\">NDP<\/span> 15%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_10\">BQ<\/span> 8%<br \/>Green 9%<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanosresearch.com\/library\/polls\/POLNAT-F08-T349.pdf\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_11\">Nanos<\/span> <\/a><\/strong><em>(Jan 3-7, 1000 telephone)<\/em><br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_12\">CPC<\/span> 33%<br \/>Lib 34%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_13\">NDP<\/span> 19%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_14\">BQ<\/span> 7%<br \/>Green 7%<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEAN<\/strong><br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_15\">CPC<\/span> 36.75%<br \/>Lib 30.5%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_16\">NDP<\/span> 17.25%<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_17\">BQ<\/span> 8.75%<br \/>Green 6.5%<\/p>\n<p>So, taken as a whole, it appears we&#8217;re back to the 6-point holding pattern, which has generally been the norm since 2006. Despite this, there is some good news in Liberal land &#8211; Harper&#8217;s &#8220;coalition bounce&#8221; is gone, the Grits are up in Quebec in every one of these polls, and <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_18\">Ignatieff<\/span> is doing better on the &#8220;best PM&#8221; question than Dion ever did.<\/p>\n<p>And all of that, is the context you can be sure the parties will be keeping in mind, as they decide how to approach the upcoming budget.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s debatable how much stock we should be placing in the polls until Ignatieff gets a chance to fully define himself.
