Among his policy proposals sure to go over well in the right-of-centre province are: a moratorium on oil sands development, a progressive income tax, a cap-and-trade system, an increased carbon levy on large <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">GHG<\/span> emitters, and a new provincial sales tax. Memo to all politicians &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/topics\/news\/story.html?id=1097533\">do not muse about raising taxes<\/a>&#8230;it is <em>never<\/em> smart.<\/p>\n<p>2. Speaking of which, we&#8217;ve finally seen the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservative.ca\/EN\/2459\/107935\">Iggy picture <\/a>that will be donning the front page of conservative.ca for the next few years. I must say, it&#8217;s really not that bad, except for the dark eyes that look as if they want to steal my soul.<\/p>\n<p>3. Back in Alberta, it appears Iris Evans may be heading off to the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\">Drumheller<\/span> penitentiary before long, as Alberta is poised to <a href=\"http:\/\/daveberta.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/sheriffs-getting-their-arrest-warrents.html\">break its own no-deficit law<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>4. The Winnipeg Sun offers up a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winnipegsun.com\/news\/canada\/2008\/12\/21\/7819056-sun.html\">year in review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>5. The headline of the week comes from the Ottawa Citizen: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawacitizen.com\/Harper+leave+Sussex\/1097460\/story.html\">Harper set to leave 24 Sussex<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>6. Al <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\">Franken<\/span> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fivethirtyeight.com\/2008\/12\/franken-claims-to-have-lead-of-35-50.html\">looking good<\/a> in the Minnesota recount.<\/p>\n<p>7.
