So, you can be sure that I&#8217;ll be doing just that tonight (<em>en <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">francais<\/span>)<\/em> and tomorrow (<em>en <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">anglais<\/span>)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But, with 5 leaders and few big issues, the debates might turn out to be rather dull. That&#8217;s why I present the <strong>2008 Canadian Election Debate Drinking Game<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take a drink whenever someone&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>-With no chance of becoming PM says &#8220;<em>as Prime Minister I would<\/em>&#8230;&#8221;<br \/>-Tells a touching story about a senior they met on the campaign trail<br \/>-Says they are &#8220;<em>surprised<\/em>&#8221; by something unsurprising an opponent says<br \/>-mentions &#8220;<em>Canadian values<\/em>&#8220;<br \/>-mentions &#8220;<em>average Canadians<\/em>&#8220;<br \/>-says &#8220;<em>strong leader<\/em>&#8220;<br \/>-says &#8220;<em>while I don&#8217;t agree with Mr. X, at least he has taken a firm stand<\/em>&#8220;<br \/>-says &#8220;<em>Canadians are telling me&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Take a shot when someone name drops&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>George Bush<br \/>Julie <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\">Couillard<\/span><br \/>Bob Rae<br \/>Brian Mulroney<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\">Barack<\/span> <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\">Obama<\/span><br \/>Ed <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\">Broadbent<\/span><br \/>John Howard<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take a sip of your shaken martini (or any pretentious drink that pretends to be cool) every time Stephen Harper&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>-mentions past Liberal governments<br \/>-says &#8220;the fundamentals of the economy are strong&#8221;<br \/>-calls The Green Shift a &#8220;tax on everything&#8221;<br \/>-calls the opposition &#8220;<span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_6\">reckless<\/span>&#8221; and\/or &#8220;irresponsible&#8221;<br \/>-tries to smile<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take a sip of your wine (make sure it is a local wine, so as to minimize your carbon footprint!) every time <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\">Stephane<\/span> Dion&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>-mentions past Liberal governments<br \/>-says something eerily similar to one of his Tory commercial lines (&#8220;it is not easy to make priorities&#8221;, &#8220;that is unfair&#8221;, etc)<br \/>-confuses you about The Green Shift<br \/>-mentions the environment in response to a question having nothing at all to do with the environment<br \/>-looks exasperated at something Jack Layton says<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take a chug of your good &#8216;old working family kitchen table beer every time Jack Layton&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>-promises &#8220;results for people&#8221;<br \/>-talks about &#8220;kitchen tables&#8221;<br \/>-scapegoats big banks or oil companies<br \/>-talks about ATM fees<br \/>-says something that makes you want to smack him<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take a sip of a drink you liked a decade ago but have since outgrown every time Gilles <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_8\">Duceppe<\/span>&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>-says &#8220;<span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_9\">fe<\/span>-DE-<span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_10\">RAWL<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_11\">lism<\/span>&#8220;<br \/>-makes an English pop culture reference<br \/>-scapegoats Alberta<br \/>-says something incredibly ironic [see his 2006 gem &#8220;<em>Harper, you can&#8217;t keep holding votes on gay marriage just because you don&#8217;t like the result<\/em>&#8220;]<br \/>(notice how I don&#8217;t have &#8220;<em>mentions separatism<\/em>&#8221; here since, let&#8217;s be serious, he&#8217;s obviously not going to)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chug a glass of beet juice every time Elizabeth May&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>-compliments <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_12\">Stephane<\/span> Dion<br \/>-starts rambling<br \/>&#8211;<span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_13\">inadvertently<\/span> insults Canadians<br \/>-says something hopelessly idealistic<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think my favourite part of any campaign is live-blogging the debate.
