-Jets star Thomas Steen<\/span><\/span><\/span> is going for the Tory nomination<\/a> in Bill Blaikie’s<\/span><\/span><\/span> old riding<\/a>. The NDP<\/span><\/span><\/span> nomination meeting is set for this Sunday<\/a>, with MLA<\/span><\/span><\/span> Jim Maloway<\/span><\/span><\/span> among the three candidates vying for the nod. I know some people are going to disagree with me, but I’d be willing to put money on Steen<\/span><\/span><\/span> netting this one…that seat is ripe for the picking with Blaikie<\/span><\/span><\/span> gone.<\/p>\n

-It sounds like David Emerson will not be running again<\/a>.<\/p>\n

–Palliser<\/span><\/span><\/span> MP Dave Batters <\/a>will not be running again, due to medical reasons. Batters knocked of Dick Proctor to win this seat in 2004 and won by 10%<\/a> over his NDP<\/span><\/span><\/span> opponent last time. This Liberals will be running a former Regina police chief <\/a>in the riding.<\/p>\n

-The Liberals anounced<\/span> a star candidate<\/a> in Manitoba today, convincing Bob Friesen<\/span><\/span>, president of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, to run against Steven Fletcher in Charleswood<\/span><\/span>-St. James-Assiniboia<\/span><\/span><\/a>. Hopefully this will help the party’s credibility with the farming community.<\/p>\n

-Former PC MP Andre Bachand<\/span>, who called said the idea of a merger between the PCs and Alliance “gives me a rash and no dermatologist can fix this problem<\/a>” must have found a good dermatologist, because he’ll be the Conservative candidate in Sherbrooke<\/span><\/a>. It’s definitely a long shot riding for Bachand<\/span>, but he’s pretty much guaranteed a cabinet position if he wins, so it may not be a bad gamble on his part.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
