{"id":1784,"date":"2008-05-29T09:02:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-29T13:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1784"},"modified":"2008-05-29T09:02:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-29T13:02:00","slug":"munsinger-deux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1784","title":{"rendered":"Munsinger Deux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">L&#8217;Affair<\/span> <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">Bernier&#8217;s<\/span> Briefs<\/em>, as I think I will hereafter call it, has certainly proven to be a far sexier scandal than <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\">Cadscam<\/span>, the In &amp; Out scandal, or even Mulroney-<span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\">Schreiber<\/span>. It was front page news for the third consecutive day in Canada, and has been grabbing <a href=\"http:\/\/bcinto.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/canada-is-back-baby.html\">international headlines<\/a>, including a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalpost.com\/todays_paper\/story.html?id=547549\">front page story in Italy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The latest highlights:<\/p>\n<p>1. The Liberals are alleging that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/News\/Canada\/article\/432767\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\">CSIS<\/span> met with Harper<\/a> about <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\">Bernier<\/span> and <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_6\">Couillard<\/span> weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>2. The <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\">NDP<\/span> are alleging that <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_8\">Bernier<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/servlet\/story\/RTGAM.20080529.wbernier29\/BNStory\/National\/home\">carelessly<\/a> left his briefing files out on an airplane.<\/p>\n<p>3. Don Martin floats the bizarre theory that Bernier was &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalpost.com\/opinion\/columnists\/story.html?id=84483a0b-350b-4cf6-bd52-2f4e6eb7b6d4\">set up<\/a>&#8221; (to take the blame, not with Couillard).<\/p>\n<p>4. Chris <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_9\">Selly<\/span> at <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_10\">Macleans<\/span> is trying out &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.macleans.ca\/article.jsp?content=20080528_134957_3584&amp;page=2\">the leave-behind affair<\/a>&#8221; as a possible name for the scandal. He also finds this gem of an article from Peter Worthington:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">&#8220;Supposedly, the cabinet documents contained data about Afghanistan. Big deal,&#8221; Peter Worthington <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.torontosun.com\/News\/Columnists\/Worthington_Peter\/2008\/05\/28\/5689336.php\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">scoffs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"> in the Toronto Sun. &#8220;It&#8217;s a challenge to imagine anything about our role in Afghanistan that could be damaging.&#8221; <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>5. The Globe has the latest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/servlet\/story\/LAC.20080529.CABINET29\/TPStory\/TPNational\/Politics\/\">Cabinet Shuffle speculation<\/a>, indicating it will be a &#8220;small&#8221; shuffle then talking about the need to replace <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_11\">Bernier<\/span>, <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_12\">Toews<\/span>, Emerson (at Trade), and <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_13\">Guergis<\/span>, while promoting Jason <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_14\">Kenney<\/span>, a Quebec MP or two, James Moore, and James <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_15\">Rajotte<\/span>.
