{"id":1775,"date":"2008-05-20T18:19:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-20T22:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1775"},"modified":"2008-05-20T18:19:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-20T22:19:00","slug":"meanwhile-in-the-usa-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1775","title":{"rendered":"Meanwhile, in the USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sad news, as Ted Kennedy is <span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">revealed<\/span> to have a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2008\/POLITICS\/05\/20\/kennedy.tumor\/index.html\">malignant brain tumour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">neverending<\/span><\/span> story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2008\/POLITICS\/05\/20\/primary.wrap\/index.html\">visits Kentucky and Oregon<\/a> tonight and (spoiler alert) <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">Obama<\/span><\/span> will clinch a pledged delegate majority, but Hillary will win Kentucky and fight on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jasoncherniak.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/you-want-change-thank-clinton.html\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\">Cherniak<\/span><\/span><\/a> makes a good case for Hillary staying in the race until the end and I do think <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\">Obama&#8217;s<\/span><\/span> win at a contested <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\">DNC<\/span> would generate a certain amount of excitement and create some momentum<\/span>. However, the logistics of running a Presidential campaign are such that the Democrats simply can&#8217;t afford to wait until late August to crown a nominee.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\">Puerto<\/span> Rico holds the final primary on June 7<span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_6\">th<\/span>. I think a fair solution would be for the super delegates to make their choices public soon thereafter, so that <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\">Obama&#8217;s<\/span> win can finally become &#8220;official&#8221; and he can focus on setting up a national campaign and attacking John McCain. The <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_8\">DNC<\/span> will, I&#8217;m sure, give Hillary a prominent role at the convention and find some way to recognize the strength of her campaign, but to delay the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_9\">inevitable<\/span> by nearly three months for&#8230;well, I can&#8217;t think of <em>any<\/em> good reason&#8230;just wouldn&#8217;t be fair to Obama, to Clinton, or to the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>UPDATE:<\/em><\/strong> Clinton takes Kentucky by an impressive 65%-30% margin.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;and Obama&#8217;s looking good in Oregon &#8211; 63% to 37%, with 11% of the polls reporting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sad news, as Ted Kennedy is revealed to have a malignant brain tumour.
