{"id":1757,"date":"2008-05-03T12:47:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-03T16:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1757"},"modified":"2008-05-03T12:47:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-03T16:47:00","slug":"the-eyes-of-the-nation-turn-to-guam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1757","title":{"rendered":"The Eyes of the Nation Turn to Guam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With a neck and neck race for the democratic nomination, the usually insignificant Guam primary is now&#8230;slightly less insignificant. <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">Barack<\/span> <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">Obama<\/span> has become the first Democrat to ever <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guampdn.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20080410\/NEWS01\/804100312\/1002\">set up a campaign office in Guam<\/a> (Republican Rudy <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\">Gulliani<\/span>, of course, set one up in January as part of his &#8220;Florida and Guam&#8221; strategy), while Bill Clinton has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kuam.com\/news\/27544.aspx\">talking up the importance of Guam<\/a>. It&#8217;s nice to see that no region is too small to pander to!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s difficult to say who has the edge in this primary, given that so little is known about Guamanian politics. Having dodged gunfire during the Battle of Guam in WW2, I&#8217;d expect Hillary to have the edge, but who knows?<\/p>\n<p>Here are the early results from <a href=\"http:\/\/politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com\/\">CNN<\/a>, with 7 of 19 villages reporting (yes, <em>villages<\/em>):<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\">Obama<\/span> 55.3%<br \/>Clinton 44.7%<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>UPDATE:<\/em><\/strong> It&#8217;s Obama by <em><a href=\"http:\/\/politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com\/2008\/05\/03\/obama-edges-clinton-in-island-squeaker\/\">7 votes<\/a>! <\/em>50.1% to 49.9%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With a neck and neck race for the democratic nomination, the usually insignificant Guam primary is now&#8230;slightly less insignificant.
