Serious soul searching is needed.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>It&#8217;s always hard to compare <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">byelections<\/span> to general elections due to low turn-out, different candidates, and altered voting tactics. The exception would be when the same candidate runs in both elections and the reasons to vote for him are identical in both instances. Luckily, in Vancouver <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">Quadra<\/span> this was (kind of) the case.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><strong>1988 Vancouver <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\">Quadra<\/span><\/strong> <\/div>\n<div>John Turner (Rhinoceros Party): 760 votes, 1.4%<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><strong>2008 Vancouver <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\">Quadra<\/span><\/strong> <\/div>\n<div>John Turner (<span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\">NeoRhino<\/span> Party): 110 votes, 0.4%<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>And, to think, 1988 John Turner had to deal with a split &#8220;John Turner&#8221; vote, due to the presence of (fringe?) candidate the Right Honourable John Napier Turner on the ballot.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>Tough times to be a rhino&#8230;<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178924580785769762\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R988d5RGTSI\/AAAAAAAAAYc\/UTBm7RSrLLA\/s200\/rhino.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/> <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div> <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A once proud party lies in shambles.
