I&#8217;ll be out at my &#8220;Albertans in Toronto&#8221; election night party so there won&#8217;t be any live blogging of the event, but I&#8217;ll throw up an open thread before I head out for people to comment on the results as they come in. And &#8211; best of all &#8211; I may break my &#8220;never blog drunk&#8221; rule and post something Monday night when I get back. And, judging from the polls, there may be a few expletitives in that one so be sure to check in for that. Until then, tomorrow night will be my seat predictions and tonight is the final &#8220;week in review&#8221; of the campaign.<\/div>\n<div><strong>On The Net<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-It&#8217;s a bird&#8230;it&#8217;s a plane&#8230;no, it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gauntlet.ca\/2008\/02\/alberta-votes-2008-day-25-ed-stelmach.html\">Super Ed<\/a>!<br \/>-The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thirtysevenyears.com\/\">37 years ad campaign<\/a>, from the same people who brought you <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rottentories.ca\/\">Rotten Tories<\/a>.<br \/>-Enlightened Savage continues his <a href=\"http:\/\/enlightenedsavage.blogspot.com\/\">riding profiles<\/a>.<br \/>-Daveberta details a senior Tory cabmin <a href=\"http:\/\/daveberta.blogspot.com\/2008\/02\/strathcona-veto.html\">completely contradicting her party&#8217;s<\/a> Edmonton region plan.<br \/>-Scott Dippel points to examples of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/albertavotes2008\/notebook\/2008\/02\/a_pattern_emerges.html\">a very disturbing pattern <\/a>which includes a PC candidate threatening a newspaper editor for having the nerve to print a picture of Kevin Taft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ads, Ads, Ads!<\/strong><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R8oJi72XXHI\/AAAAAAAAAXs\/sYsSqfiL204\/s1600-h\/moon.png\"><img id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172957617774353522\" style=\"FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R8oJi72XXHI\/AAAAAAAAAXs\/sYsSqfiL204\/s200\/moon.png\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>-The ALP release <a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2008\/02\/ed-stelmach-says-future-is-full-of.html\">their first ads<\/a> of the campaign, with Kevin Taft talking about the need for change.<br \/>-The NDP have embarked on the largest ad campaign in their history, attacking Kevin Taft and Ed Stelmach for being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3vPEOnfTENA\">in the pocket of big oil<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/canadianpress.google.com\/article\/ALeqM5h23Cb_qgw5YII1TheXK2GCqJYUdw\">Uh-huh<\/a>. Not that I&#8217;m complaining &#8211; I figure a few soft Tories will see the ads and think &#8220;<em>if big oil likes Kevin Taft, I&#8217;m guessing he&#8217;s not planning to bring in a new NEP<\/em>&#8220;.<br \/>-The <a href=\"http:\/\/wildrosealliance.ca\/party\/index.php?option=com_wrapper&amp;Itemid=142\">Alliance ads<\/a> attack the Tories for being <em>not <\/em>in the pocket of big oil.<br \/>-The Albertans for Change also release their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.albertansforchange.com\/vid-street-2.html\">streeters ad<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R8oTt72XXII\/AAAAAAAAAX0\/0FkQktRxSH4\/s1600-h\/kowalski.jpg\"><img id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172968801869192322\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R8oTt72XXII\/AAAAAAAAAX0\/0FkQktRxSH4\/s200\/kowalski.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Kowalski To Lead Public Stonings!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Can you imagine Stephen Harper ever letting one of his MPs send out a campaign pamphlet that says &#8220;<em>While human beings can create laws, the laws of God must take precedence<\/em>&#8220;? Well, that&#8217;s exactly what Tory <a href=\"http:\/\/daveberta.blogspot.com\/2008\/02\/god-and-politics-in-alberta.html\">MP Ken Kowalski has done<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Welcome to Alberta<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/straightouttaedmonton.blogspot.com\/2008\/02\/voting-out-of-fear_25.html\">SoE<\/a> shows us a Drumheller voter who likes <a href=\"http:\/\/tomdooley.ca\/\">her Liberal candidate<\/a> and feels it&#8217;s time for a change but will still vote Tory because she feels her riding would be punished for elecing an opposition MLA. All I&#8217;ll say to her is that if Drumheller actually elected a Liberal MLA, you&#8217;d probably be looking at a 70 seat Liberal majority, so I think her concerns are a little moot.<\/p>\n<p>Also employing a very unique voting strategy is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalpost.com\/opinion\/story.html?id=341536\">Colby Cosh<\/a>, who will be reluctantly voting for the PCs because&#8230;Ed Stelmach likes Alberta. As supposed to Cosh&#8217;s ideological match Paul Hinman who, I guess, <em>hates <\/em>the place&#8230; <\/div>\n<div>[And before I get 50 angry comments, yes, I&#8217;m aware there are people who vote Liberal in Ontario for the same reasons]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top of the Class<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>The Alberta Liberals have been ranked first in pretty much every report card that&#8217;s come out. They&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/calgaryherald\/news\/story.html?id=56a40c0e-0023-44b6-afce-b48a72311c5c\">outgreened the Greens<\/a> on the environment, and have also gotten top marks from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/edmontonjournal\/features\/albertavotes\/story.html?id=fa38975a-1763-4f85-ba17-80386c349d25&amp;k=27807\">health<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.su.ucalgary.ca\/uploads\/media\/SU_ProvElect_RptCard.pdf\">education<\/a> groups.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R8ocmL2XXJI\/AAAAAAAAAX8\/FQ-Mnop_n7c\/s1600-h\/stelmachmower.jpg\"><img id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172978564329856146\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R8ocmL2XXJI\/AAAAAAAAAX8\/FQ-Mnop_n7c\/s200\/stelmachmower.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/><strong>Next Week, Marc Lalonde Stumps For The Liberals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The NDP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/calgaryherald\/news\/story.html?id=a63e5c14-0252-45e4-bea0-bc2f82a1d64e&amp;k=95241\">bring in Dave Barrett to campaign for them<\/a>. Because Albertans <em>love <\/em>being told what to think by politicians from outside the province!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quote of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;After the election is over we want to make sure that every area has an equal opportunity to cast their ballots&#8221;<\/em><br \/><em>&#8211;<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/edmontonjournal\/news\/story.html?id=88b4ddfa-acd1-4af2-9652-4a175a53a053\">Ed Stelmach<\/a> responding to complaints that polling stations will not be set up on all native reservations in the province.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Catchier Than &#8220;It&#8217;s Time&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Naomi Lakritz pens an ode to the Liberals entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/calgaryherald\/columnists\/story.html?id=3b0db1b3-bc54-49a8-b230-eccc1e3f82b5\">Better Red Than Ed<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>YouTube, I Tube, We All Tube For YouTube!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Federation of Independent Business sits down for YouTube interviews with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Gf8XXCPxypQ\">Stelmach<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=A3dvf3qp2rs\">Taft<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8EE6h8vg8s0\">Hinman<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=K1jfV6izXdQ\">Read<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Numb3rs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stelmach has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/edmontonjournal\/features\/albertavotes\/story.html?id=e897b190-acb9-459e-999e-67ed70fc279b&amp;k=84204\">somewhat softened<\/a> his ridiculous claim he has stuck by for three weeks that the Liberal environmental plan would cost the province 350,000 jobs. But he&#8217;s still refusing to explain any of his numbers. Probably because it&#8217;s a ridiculous figure he pulled out of thin air with no basis behind it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poll Watch<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The polls all show that Albertans want change and aren&#8217;t big fans of Ed Stelmach. The polls also show the Tories getting anything from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.angus-reid.com\/polls\/view\/30035\/stelmach_leads_but_turnout_a_factor_in_alberta\">big majority<\/a> to&#8230;an even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legermarketing.com\/documents\/pol\/080228ENG.pdf\">bigger<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipsos-na.com\/news\/pressrelease.cfm?id=3832\">majority<\/a>.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, Albertans head to the polls.
