In my view, the ALP missed a chance to hammer Stelmach as hard as they could have on the conflict of interest switchero in week 1.<\/p>\n<p>Ask Ed if he&#8217;ll use the notwithstanding clause to override the Charter on this &#8211; I can guarantee the resulting press conference would lead to a lot of pain and suffering.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R60yrmbjcNI\/AAAAAAAAAVw\/Br9Ume4Wzb8\/s1600-h\/stelmachseniors.jpg\"><img id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164840072295706834\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R60yrmbjcNI\/AAAAAAAAAVw\/Br9Ume4Wzb8\/s200\/stelmachseniors.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>And now, from the home office in Vegreville, comes <strong>The Top Ten Steady Eddie Stumbles of week 1900<\/strong>. I intend this to be a weekly feature, although I may need top 12 or top 20 lists some weeks at the pace Ed is going&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>10. Stelmach <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/albertavotes2008\/notebook\/2008\/02\/old_whatshisname.html\">forgets NDP leader Brian Mason&#8217;s name<\/a>, calling him &#8220;Bill Mason&#8221; and &#8220;whatever his name is&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>9. Stelmach uses the government news media room for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/edmontonjournal\/features\/albertavotes\/story.html?id=5316c5ef-dc50-4af2-adee-91504ae9e919&amp;k=18372\">partisan press conference<\/a>, showing a lack of understanding in the difference between the Alberta Government and the Conservative Party.<\/p>\n<p>8. And the election date he chooses? The anniversary of the Mayerthorpe murders.<\/p>\n<p>7. Stelmach gets <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/calgaryherald\/news\/story.html?id=72bc3cab-45a1-4701-92a7-091e15b8c3b2&amp;k=73006&amp;p=2\">blasted on royalties <\/a>in Drayton Valley, a riding where they beat the second place Greens by a 5 to 1 margin last time: &#8220;<em>I think the premier and (Energy Minister) Mel Knight are totally out of touch with conventional oil and gas<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>6. A group of Grade 10 students all <a href=\"http:\/\/www.albertalocalnews.com\/reddeeradvocate\/news\/Facing_the_future.html\">pan <\/a>Stelmach&#8217;s performance at their High School, including this gem: &#8220;<em>What I just mainly took from it is we are the future. (But) what\u2019s the point of coming here if you have no plans for the future<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>And our top 5 show how Stelmach has fumbled his major announcement <em>every single day<\/em> so far this campaign:<\/p>\n<p>5. Day 5: Ed announces tax breaks for seniors and, in fairness, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edmontonsun.com\/News\/Alberta\/2008\/02\/09\/4837199-sun.html\">criticism <\/a>is less than for his other announcements. The problem? He stands up the stud scud at a fundraiser, drawing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/calgaryherald\/news\/story.html?id=96a3ac2f-89f7-4a47-bc34-c50825c60cc5\">front page criticism<\/a> from his star candidate.<\/p>\n<p>4. Day 4: Ed&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/albertavotes2008\/notebook\/2008\/02\/country_welcome_1.html\">disastrous<\/a>&#8221; daycare announcement. The moms on hand all <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edmontonsun.com\/News\/Alberta\/2008\/02\/07\/4833005.html\">critiqued<\/a> his &#8220;plan&#8221;, with one calling it &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canada\/albertavotes2008\/story\/2008\/02\/07\/reddeer-daycare.html\">insulting<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>3. Day 3: Ed&#8217;s AISH announcement. And while the Premier did better than Ralph on this topic, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canada\/albertavotes2008\/story\/2008\/02\/07\/aish-folo.html\">staff who work with the disabled <\/a>called it an &#8220;empty promise&#8221; and &#8220;frustrating&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R60sAmbjcKI\/AAAAAAAAAVY\/mnoiPyZNfJY\/s1600-h\/sbPlanWithHoles.jpg\"><img id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164832736491565218\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_L6NW1UySEKs\/R60sAmbjcKI\/AAAAAAAAAVY\/mnoiPyZNfJY\/s200\/sbPlanWithHoles.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>2. Day 2: Ed&#8217;s Health Care Plan which has been called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/edmontonjournal\/news\/story.html?id=263ef579-ac8e-4c5c-b475-6084dc498483\">ridiculous<\/a>&#8220;, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.edmontonsun.com\/News\/Edmonton\/2008\/02\/07\/4831904-sun.html\">the disappearing doctor act<\/a>&#8220;, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.edmontonsun.com\/News\/Alberta\/2008\/02\/05\/4828653.html\">not possible<\/a>&#8220;, and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/edmontonjournal\/story.html?id=263ef579-ac8e-4c5c-b475-6084dc498483&amp;k=69919\">mythical<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>1.
