{"id":1531,"date":"2007-10-04T13:40:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-04T17:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1531"},"modified":"2007-10-04T13:40:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-04T17:40:00","slug":"luau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1531","title":{"rendered":"Luau"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Time for your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canada\/calgary\/story\/2007\/10\/03\/credit-stevens.html\">daily PC scandal<\/a>&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">Alberta Deputy Premier Ron Stevens made a three-day pit stop in Hawaii on a 2003 winter trip to Australia for government business, a CBC investigation has shown.<\/p>\n<p>Stevens, also the province&#8217;s justice minister, was the minister responsible for gaming when <strong>he travelled to Australia in January 2003 to study that country&#8217;s gambling system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Stevens defended the stopover Tuesday, saying it was a short layover to break up a long flight and was taken to save money.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>I don&#8217;t recall whether it was a three-day stop or not<\/strong>,&#8221; Stevens said when questioned about the trip.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But I do recall that we did it in that fashion because it was less expensive than flying business class.
