Safe to say, we&#8217;re in for a third straight minority government but, despite the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politicalstaples.com\/2007\/08\/26\/the_latest_poll.html\">latest polls<\/a>, I think Dion might be able to surprise a few people and eek it out if the undecideds break his way. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bowjamesbow.ca\/2008\/08\/26\/2008-election-n.shtml\">James Bow <\/a>is live blogging the results tonight, while <a href=\"http:\/\/chuckercanuck.blogspot.com\/\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">Chucker<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abandonedstuff.com\/\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">Saskboy<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/a>weighed in with their thoughts earlier today.<\/p>\n<p>6:00 pm: I voted today and made a few phone calls to help get out the vote but, let&#8217;s face it, despite what happened provincially this spring, this is still Harper country. Rather than go to one of the &#8220;victory parties&#8221; I decided to come home early, crack open the beer and popcorn, and watch the results courtesy of the good people at <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\">CTV<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>6:11 pm: Libs up 3 seats to 2. <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\">Wohoo<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>! We&#8217;re number 1! We&#8217;re number 1!<\/p>\n<p>6:15 pm: There&#8217;s an &#8220;other&#8221; on the board. I guess this is probably a Green seat since I imagine Lizzie May will win tonight after McKay&#8217;s sexist slip-up during the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>6:21 pm: OK, now there&#8217;s a Green and an &#8220;other&#8221;. Did Natural Law make a comeback? <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_4\">NDP<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> also have their first seat up on the scoreboard. I bet 20 bucks at the start of the campaign that the Dippers would win less seats than Canada took medals in Beijing so I&#8217;m hoping Jack&#8217;s team prove to be bigger chokers than our track and field boys.<\/p>\n<p>6:24 pm: Lib 8 Con 3 <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_5\">NDP<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> 3 Green 1 Others 3. Must be something in the potatoes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>6:47 pm: With over half the polls about to close, the Maritime numbers have the Liberals at 12 seats, the <em>Rhinos <\/em>at 10, the Tories at 5, the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_7\">NDP<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> at 4, and the Greens at 1. Definitely not a good sign for Harper&#8230;although one wonders what happens if the Rhinos find two more seats and get official party status? It would make <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_11\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_11\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_11\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_11\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_11\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_11\">QP<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> a real zoo. (zing!)<\/p>\n<p>7:02 pm: Quebec through Sask have just closed &#8211; I must say, I&#8217;m curious to see how they go since Atlantic Canadians gave a big thumbs down to both Harper and Dion. Who can blame them &#8211; these guys are both so boring I found myself switching over to synchronized swimming a few times during the debates. Hell, these guys were both so boring, I wasn&#8217;t even ashamed to <em>admit<\/em> I&#8217;d switched over to synchronized swimming.<\/p>\n<p>7:09 pm: Results are starting to flow in. Layton down, Trudeau and Dion up, but it&#8217;s still early. The Rhino total is now up to 14 which is&#8230;troubling. I mean, a few Rhino seats was kind of funny &#8211; in the same way <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_12\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_12\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_12\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_12\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_12\">Stockwell<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> Day&#8217;s time as Alliance leader was kind of funny. A <em>lot <\/em>of Rhino seats is more like a <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_13\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_13\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_13\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_13\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_13\">Stockwell<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> Day as Prime Minister scenario&#8230;god, we could be the Daily Show punchline for the next four years!<\/p>\n<p>7:23 pm: Rhinos have now pulled into the lead. <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_14\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_14\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_14\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_14\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_14\">Rhi<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> 30, Lib 28, <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_15\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_15\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_15\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_15\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_15\">CPC<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> 19, <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_16\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_16\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_16\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_16\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_16\">BQ<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> 14, <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_17\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_17\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_17\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_17\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_17\">NDP<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> 4, Green 1. Ken Dryden has been declared defeated and, true to form, is making comparisons to game 1 of the Summit Series. Layton, <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_18\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_18\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_18\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_18\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_18\">Duceppe<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>, and Dion are on in dog fights in their home <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_19\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_19\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_19\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_19\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_19\">ridings<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>. I&#8217;ve flipped <a href=\"http:\/\/canadavotes2008.com\/\">between networks <\/a>so this isn&#8217;t just Duffy going off the deep end&#8230;this is for real. Unreal.<br \/>Oh, and 10 bucks to whoever can actually name the leader of the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_20\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_20\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_20\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_20\">Rhinocerous<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> Party &#8211; do they even have a leader? Or does a <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_21\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_21\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_21\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_21\">Rhinocerous<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> become our Prime Minister if they win? Oh well, can&#8217;t be worse than Harper.<\/p>\n<p>7:35 pm: <a href=\"http:\/\/chuckercanuck.blogspot.com\/2007\/08\/live-blogging-2008-election.html\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_22\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_22\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_22\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_22\">Chucker<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/a>points out that this means, at the very least, 1.5 million a year in taxpayer dollars to the Rhinos. This from a party with a less credible platform than the <em><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_23\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_23\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_23\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_23\">NDP<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em>. James Bow is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bowjamesbow.ca\/2008\/08\/26\/2008-election-n.shtml\">equally confused <\/a>and reports that <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_24\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_24\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_24\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_24\">Ignatieff<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> has been defeated, although <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_25\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_25\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_25\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_25\">CTV<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> hasn&#8217;t called that one yet. Either way, a lot of people will be losing sleep over the results tonight.<\/p>\n<p>7:52 pm: <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_26\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_26\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_26\">CTV<\/span><\/span><\/span> has declared Bob Rae, Martha Hall Findlay, and Justin Trudeau elected&#8230;Dion&#8217;s seat is still too close to call. <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_27\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_27\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_27\">Duceppe<\/span><\/span><\/span> and Layton have both been declared defeated although, the way things are going, they might be happy to be out of politics. <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_28\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_28\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_28\">CTV<\/span><\/span><\/span> and CBC have both projected a Rhino minority but&#8230;with Alberta and BC still to come, I wouldn&#8217;t be so sure about that. <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_29\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_29\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_29\">CPC<\/span><\/span><\/span> could easily pick up 50 seats there which would leave them with a minority&#8230;under 100 seats, but a win nevertheless. Good luck building a coalition either way!<\/p>\n<p>8:20 pm: <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_30\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_30\">Aberta<\/span><\/span> results are rolling in and Rob Anders appears to be going down in defeat! <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_31\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_31\">Hallelujiah<\/span><\/span>! The Rhino stampede has slowed at the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_32\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_32\">rockies<\/span><\/span>, with the Rhinos leading in four Alberta seats and the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_33\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_33\">NDP<\/span><\/span> picking up <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_34\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_34\">Strathcona<\/span><\/span> in a bizarre four way split. Looks like Harper will win his seat though&#8230;one presumes him and Dion will stay on given the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_35\">instability<\/span> of the next Parliament. Rhinos are now up comfortable 135 to 65 for the Tories and will obviously win and should pick up a majority if BC comes through for them. Unreal. <a href=\"http:\/\/canadavotes2008.com\/\">Popular vote <\/a>has the Tories and Liberals at record lows &#8211; under 25% each.<\/p>\n<p>8:53 pm: A few recounts are still needed but it looks like&#8230;I can barely even type it&#8230;the Rhinos have won a majority government. The media are frantically searching for Rhino HQ where Brian <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_35\">Salmi<\/span> is set to speak. Will he accept the title of PM, or simply have his party resign their seats, knowing this was a joke that went a bit too far? Who knows &#8211; we&#8217;re in uncharted waters now.<br \/><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_36\">RHI<\/span> 160, CON 69, LIB 41, <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_37\">BQ<\/span> 19, <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_38\">NDP<\/span> 17, <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_39\">GRN<\/span> 2<\/p>\n<p>10:04 pm: Just finished watching all the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadavotes2008.com\/speech\/\">speeches<\/a>. It was hard for all the leaders, Rhinos included, to hide their shock. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadavotes2008.com\/2008\/08\/the-right-honourable-prime-min.html\">Harper<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadavotes2008.com\/2008\/08\/the-leader-of-the-new-democrat.html\">Layton<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadavotes2008.com\/2008\/08\/the-honourable-stephane-dion-l.html\">Dion <\/a>have all resigned, which means I&#8217;ll have a lot to post about in the coming year. Given the instability of the rhinos, it may have been a rash <span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_40\">overreaction<\/span> on their parts.
