I’ve got to hand it to Hugh McFadyen<\/span><\/span> – he may just have found a winning issue<\/a> in the Manitoba election:<\/p>\n

Bring pro hockey back to Winnipeg: Manitoba Tories
<\/strong>
WINNIPEG \u2014 Manitoba’s provincial election campaign has turned its attention to hockey with the Conservatives promising to bring the NHL back to Winnipeg.<\/p>\n

Standing alongside former Winnipeg Jet Thomas Steen<\/span><\/span>, Tory Leader Hugh McFadyen<\/span><\/span> said he’ll work with the private sector to bring back the team, who left Manitoba a decade ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, I know, I know. It’s got that NDP<\/span><\/span> “more vacations, axe ATM fees” feeling to it, but it’s sure a lot more fun to talk about than taxes or the environment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Between this and the Shane Doan<\/span><\/span> insanity, I got to thinking about other times when the national pastime…and the other <\/em>national pastime have intersected. Off the top of my head:<\/p>\n

-Stephen Harper as a guest commentator on TSN<\/span><\/span> last fall and his oft talked about but rarely \"\"<\/a>worked on hockey history book.<\/p>\n

-Gilles Duceppe<\/span><\/span> promises Quebecers<\/span><\/span> their own hockey team at international events during the last election campaign. No doubt the thought of Patrice Brisebois<\/span><\/span> coughing up the puck in a key game scared voters away.<\/p>\n

-John Manley’s ill-fated NHL bail-out to help Canadian teams deal with the sinking dollar.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>-The cross-over stars, such as Ken Dryden who have taken up a seat in the House.<\/p>\n

-The Richard riot, which had a ton of political causes and consequences.<\/p>\n

-Countless photo opps<\/span><\/span>, bets, tortured analogies, etc…<\/p>\n
