Bert Brown is, of course, famous for plowing the following phrase into his field in the 1990s: &#8220;Triple-E Senate or else&#8230;appoint me and screw the effective and equal part of it&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>2) After Rona Ambrose&#8217;s initial Green Plan was met with scorn and ridicule leading to her departure from the file, the Conservatives are planning to release a new and improved Green Plan which&#8230;wait for it&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/News\/article\/203960\"><em>weakens <\/em>the targets <\/a>set out in their first plan. Either the Tories are trying to dampen expectations, or this is their election trigger.<\/p>\n<p>3) Speaking of the environment, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/servlet\/story\/RTGAM.20070419.wclimate0419\/BNStory\/National\/home\">John Baird <\/a>went before the Senate today to claim that meeting our Kyoto targets would lead to a massive <span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">recession<\/span>, unemployment, sky-rocketing gas prices, the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">cancellation<\/span> of Hockey Night in Canada, and the closing of all Tim <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">Hortons<\/span><\/span> coast to coast.<\/p>\n<p>4) I don&#8217;t think we&#8217;ll see the Greens stand down in St. Catharines but the mere fact that some of their members are <em>talking <\/em>about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stcatharinesstandard.ca\/webapp\/sitepages\/content.asp?contentid=492120&#038;catname=Local+News&amp;classif=News+Live\">not running a candidate <\/a>is exactly why<a href=\"http:\/\/calgarygrit.blogspot.com\/2007\/04\/may-i-have-this-dance.html\"> I thought <\/a>the Dion-May deal was a strategic coup de force for the Liberals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1) Harper has announced he will be appointing barley farmer Bert Brown to fill a Senate vacancy.
