{"id":1288,"date":"2007-02-14T19:30:00","date_gmt":"2007-02-15T00:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1288"},"modified":"2007-02-14T19:30:00","modified_gmt":"2007-02-15T00:30:00","slug":"proper-protocol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1288","title":{"rendered":"Proper Protocol?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight, the House of Commons will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/servlet\/story\/RTGAM.20070214.wkyoto0214\/BNStory\/National\/home\">vote in a law <\/a>binding them to respect Canada&#8217;s Kyoto <span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">commitments<\/span>. This is quite remarkable since it is being done against the government&#8217;s will, making it difficult to really predict how it&#8217;s passage will be interpreted. Given that it will cost a lot of money to meet Kyoto and that the environment has become such a major issue, the government would certainly be in their right to see this as a loss of confidence and call an election over it. If the Conservatives simply call it a &#8220;<span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">nuisance<\/span> bill&#8221; and ignore it, the opposition parties would certainly be in their right to bring forward a non-confidence motion and defeat the government on it.<\/p>\n<p>I still don&#8217;t think we&#8217;ll see an election until 2008, but if anyone is itching for a spring vote, the mechanism to get there is certainly in place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight, the House of Commons will vote in a law binding them to respect Canada&#8217;s Kyoto commitments.
