{"id":1251,"date":"2007-01-18T14:48:00","date_gmt":"2007-01-18T19:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1251"},"modified":"2007-01-18T14:48:00","modified_gmt":"2007-01-18T19:48:00","slug":"the-invasion-of-norway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calgarygrit.ca\/?p=1251","title":{"rendered":"The Invasion of Norway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/calsun.canoe.ca\/News\/National\/2007\/01\/18\/3399924-sun.html\">Oh Jack<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">BRANDON, Man. &#8212; It was all acronym soup at a speech by Jack Layton at Manitoba Ag Days yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The federal NDP leader left agricultural producers looking at each other in wide-eyed wonder after a speech about farm issues in which he repeatedly referred to the &#8220;SARS&#8221; crisis which affected the Manitoba cattle industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Another important issue is SARS,&#8221; said Layton.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was just talking to a cattle producer today who said the situation is worse now than when we were in the middle of SARS.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Manitoba Agriculture Minister Rosann Wowchuk loudly whispered, &#8220;it&#8217;s BSE, not SARS,&#8221; from her seat at the front of the audience.<\/p>\n<p>BSE is the acronym for bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad-cow disease, while SARS stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, the respiratory illness that paralyzed Toronto for several months in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Layton didn&#8217;t hear Wowchuk and kept going, saying SARS several more times.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Unfortunately, due to all the subsidies to big oil and big ass, there is no money left to fight the SARS outbreak,&#8221; Layton added.<\/p>\n<p>(h\/t <a href=\"http:\/\/www.warrenkinsella.com\/musings.htm\">Kinsella<\/a>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh Jack&#8230; BRANDON, Man. &#8212; It was all acronym soup at a speech by Jack Layton at Manitoba Ag Days yesterday.
