Opto Civilitas

Martin then jabbed the button into Peter Van Loan’s eyeball.

Some of you may recall Pat Martin’s noble quest to bring civility to Parliament:

“This is my new policy,” Martin said, holding up a handful of party-coloured buttons he had made reading “Opto Civitas.”

“I choose civility. That’s the new me.”

He had 300 buttons made up in all party colours — including a green one for Green party MP Elizabeth May — and plans to hand them out when the House resumes sitting next week.

Martin never said anything about Twitter though:

NDP MP Pat Martin calls Tories ‘rat faced whores’ on Twitter

Outspoken NDP MP Pat Martin called the Conservative party “rat faced whores” in a tirade on Twitter last night, reacting to being left out of a Tory infrastructure announcement in his riding.

“I’m not ‘worked up’ so much as ‘fed up’ with the rat faced whores in the CPC who neglect to invite me to ancemnts in my riding,” he tweeted in response to a reporter’s query.

The MP for Winnipeg Centre rant began with him first expressing anger over the role of Vic Toews’ involvement in Winnipeg’s Youth for Risk project for at-risk youth that has received $3 million in federal funding.

He began the tirade by expressing concerns of the First Nations that the “building was empty” and that the money for the “inner city youth went to ‘Youth For Christ’, who are Vic Toews’ donors and buddies.”

But then the attacks became personal, as Martin began attacking the minister of public safety’s personal life, including private details of Toew’s divorce that were revealed on Twitter earlier this year.

  1. Hello CG;

I can’t mock Pat Martin too much, as I routinely resolve to be polite and then find myself saying hotheaded things, too.

But you’re right of course; he’s goofy.

On another note, we disagreed whether the Supreme Court should have bilingual judges. I read this from S Harper on TVA and I think it’s a great compromise I can happily live with, personally:

“Does the chief justice of the Supreme Court need to be bilingual? Absolutely. Is it important for each judge, I don’t think it’s necessary.”

  2. I thought it would be prudent to note two things right now.

1 – Pat Martin is the only person to ever block me from Twitter

2 – I’ve never had to quit Twitter because I have anger problems
